Studio Etiquette
The yoga room is considered sacred space. Leave your cell phone in your car or the dressing room. The purpose of your practice is to distance yourself from the distractions of the outside world and turn within. All your worldly concerns will still be there for you after class. Give yourself 90 minutes for your mind to learn to be still. This will reward you in many wonderful manifestations outside of the yoga room.
Leave your keys with your shoes. It keeps the “jingle” out of the room and prevents you from picking up the wrong shoes by mistake.
When you enter the yoga room, immediately become aware of those around you. If someone is already in savasana, lay out your mat softly, without making a “bull whip” motion. Get blocks if you need them for class; please put blocks up after class. After class, move silently, and clean mats after everyone is up. Please observe silence after class in the yoga room.
On weekend classes, or other classes that fill up quickly, please line up in 3 rows. There are 3 lines on the floor to establish set up. The front line is close to the mirrors, with room for 13 people. The 2nd row sets up on the 2nd line, with room for 12 people.
Simply stagger yourself between the person in front of you to have access to the mirror. Veteran practitioners should move to the 1st or 2nd row allowing new people to be in the back row. This helps everyone’s practice. Do not set up directly in front of someone. Late people should set up in back or the sides of the room as not to disturb everyone already set up.
Stay in the room. Come prepared with enough water. If you need to rest, sit down on your mat. Leaving the room can become habit and affects others.
It’s fun to practice with friends. However, if you are distracted by being close to someone, where you want to talk or comment, you should move away from each other until your powers of concentration are developed. Smiles, yes, but no chit chat.
What you think about is where your energy concentrates. The more you think about the heat, the hotter it becomes. Relax, breath, smile and have fun.
We work hard to keep the studio clean. There are trash cans in the lobby, hall & restrooms. Please bring a minimum of two towels to keep our carpet fresh. Empty water bottles go in the recycle bin in the hall without lids. Please turn off lights in restrooms when leaving.
Thank you for your co-operation and your patronage. NAMASTE.
